The Trails of Boston
There are three major trails of interest that work their way through the history of Boston. The trail that started it as is the famous Freedom Trail . This is the walking trail through the city of Boston visiting the major historical sites. These are the streets that the forefathers of America walked and the buildings they conducted the first orders of business for a new country. This is were the American Revolution started. The trail is 2.5 miles long and is marked as a red brick walking trail. There are 16 historic landmark sites along the way that have been preserved by the citizens of Boston and dedicated to the country. There have been a few attempts to tear down the old and rebuild with the new but the citizens of the city saved the many buildings from destruction. Now everyone can visit the old meeting houses, churches, museums and burial grounds as they relive the story leading up to the American Revolution.
The history of the African American life of tragedy and historical triumphs also has a special walking tour. The Museum of African American History offers a great tour of the homes and people who were here in the countries beginning. Most of the old home are still private residences but there are some buildings that can be visited such as the African Meeting House and the African American Abiel Smith School. This is a chance to get a greater understanding of who lived in the neighborhoods in the early days, how they lived and how they may have contributed to the history of the city and country. Come and see how one generation came in as slaves and how future generations left as free people.
Women of the famous men in early Boston have there own place in the history books. There were a few who had some major influence on what was happening in America as it developed. There is a special walk for them along the Women’s Heritage Trail . Hundreds of women who were written in with the men in stories are now in statue and stories of their own on this path.
All three of these trails give a great picture from many sides and are not far from the best Boston hotel .
